All creatures great and small is definitely one of those books you recall and a smile spreads to your lips. A very funny read. If there was a king of sarcasm, James Herriot would have my vote.
It details the life and times of a young veterinary doctor starting out his practice, working under an older veterinary doctor. Now, this is embarrassing to admit but I only realized this wasn't a work of fiction at the end of the book. The next shock came when I realized that I had just read one of the best memoirs ever written!
